Night with "Dexter"...(Season 5 finale Tonight!)

You would never think that one of the most popular running series on TV right now came from a simple book, "Dearly Devoted Dexter', by Jeff Lindsay.  Based on the book, Showtime picked up the series for one season.  The show was more than a hit.  Based on the character Dexter Morgan, (Michael C. Hall), the worlds only serial killer with a conscience, life's tough.  Especially when you work for the Miami police as a blood splatter expert in forensics.  Dexter has always had to slip deep into his disguise: spending time with his girlfriend & in upcoming seasons, soon to be wife, Rita (Julie Benz), and her two kids, Aster & Cody.  He's a serial killer couch potato or becoming one!
Rita was damaged goods, almost like Dexter.  He felt safe around her.  He found in her a partner, someone he was developing feelings for which was more than just a disguise.  She had been married once to a junkie, who was in & out of the first season, a bad guy.  So she always had her guard up.  For herself and for her two kids.  But Dexter was the first man after her husband left that she could open up to and after a season or two, he would do anything for Rita & her kids, kill even.  He couldn't imagine life without them anymore.  She didn't know who he was, a serial killer on the side, but she accepted him for what he gave, which sometimes could've been more.  Typical for anyone carrying around a "dark passenger", to never talk about his feelings and bottle everything inside.  Juggling two lives, I never know how Dex pulls it off.  Although, a man has to have a code.  But in this case, it's Harry's code, Dexter's father.  Harry, when alive, was a police officer and took Dex in after a tragic beginning to his life.  Which of course makes Dexter who he is today.  Harry always pops up in Dexter's subconscience to try to teach him, correct him, guide him, hey...even fuck him up!
In the first season, you know the basic plot of the series.  Dexter a likeable serial killer.  So obviously they need more than Dexter killing criminals without getting into some hot water, right?
So when a particularly nasty pscyhopath starts cutting a trail through Miami - a killer whose twisted techniques leave even Dexter speechless, it becomes clear that Dexter will have to come out of hiding and hunt the monster down to save his sister, Deb, (Jennifer Carpentar), a tough as nails cop with a real dirty mouth.  Once Deb was drawn in, he had to find this killer, "The Ice Truck" killer, they dubbed him...before the police did.  That means research for Dexter and as he found out more and more, he realized that this killer was in fact his long lost brother, Rudy.  Rudy was too old to forget the tragedy that happened when him & Dex were kids.  What happened to their mom, he could never forget and was sent away, but Dexter was taken in by Harry instead.  Although they both were the same, products of being born in blood. Dexter knew that.  Their mother was murdered in front of them and Dexter grew into what he became and his brother did too.  But everyone loves Dexter, his bro Rudy, No...he had to be got.

The season was a hit, like I said.  The first season left off wrapped up, except for all the bodies that Dexter was dumping and a relentless detective, Doakes, who felt Dexter was "off".

Dexter & Doakes.

Dective & sis, Deb...who btw, I can't stand.  She's a good cop, but she's annoying as hell.  I don't like her character.  It's her face or something! ;) I can't believe Michael C. Hall & her are a couple in real life; he coud do SO much better!
At least on the show, she's always loyal to Dexter & always believes in him.  I like that.  I like that someone else is there watching is his back, thinking he could never be who he really is.
So we have season two, which is focused mainly on the "Bay Harbor Butcher", which happens to be Dexter!  The Miami police start pulling out his bodies.  So that season was a heartbeater...even tho they all are, it's just that Dexter always has to be one step ahead of the police.  It's crazy.  He's still with Rita, but some difficulty pops up there as well and to keep Rita, he would do anything. (Except confessing that he's a serial killer, of course).  So obviously if a man isn't around or isn't doing what you expect, you start assuming.  Rita assumed drugs b/c of the history with her ex.  So he placated her by going to meetings, where he met danger.  Danger in the name of Lila.
You think she's sweet and wants to help at first, but she turns out to be more than crazy.  Watch season 2 to find out what happens! Kidnapping, arsin, harassment...she was certifiably insane.  And not hard on the eyes for you guys.  Boy was Rita jealous when she found out Lila was sponsering Dexter, not that Dexter knew who she really was until the end and HOW it ended.
Poor Doakes didn't make it out of the first season and I liked him as a hyperactive, "I don't follow the rules", character.  I don't even wanna tell you what happened there, but it's all entangled in the plot of season two.

Now season 3, featuring Jimmy Smits, as Miguel.
I'm not getting into every season, but as you can see the show is getting hotter and hotter.  Now they got guest stars like Jimmy Smits, I mean my parents love him! And he played a great character.  Someone Dexter thought could understand him, maybe even a friend.  But these shows aren't about friends.  Tune in at http://www.showtime.com/, listed below my tv links as well.
Season 4, Dexter and Rita are married, he has a family.  He has a new baby, that's his.  His own son, Harrison.  No matter what Harry was saying to him, Dexter did it.  He was pulling off both worlds.  Until this man, another great actor and guest star, John Lithgow comes into the picture, as the infamous "Trinity killer" that has been around for 30 years.

John Lithgow as Trinity.  He plays a phsycopath great, even in the past.

Rita & Harrison
So, once again, Dexter is always one step ahead of the police, even if it's by a minute and he's caught himself in some rough situations, but knowing Dex, he'll always get out...I hope. But this time Dex got too close.  He was amazed by the Trinity Killer, a man named Arthur Mitchell, who was playing two lives, one as a murderous man scarred with secrets and blood, and one as a family man with a wife and two kids.  Dexter thought he could learn something from Trinity in the beginning, friending him with a fake name, to find out more.  But he didn't make his move soon enough, even tho he knew this man was  eventually gonna be on his kill table.  The cops were on him, but not good enough.  But Dexter was too late also.  Trinity hurt Dexter forever before he even knew it.  And that's when the death of Rita, and how she dies, shocks almost the entire world.

Yup, that's right.  Now Harrison, his own son, born in blood...just like him.  Can he save him? The death of Rita was the most emotional night of my life.  I cried until my eyes were dry.  Because by the time season 4 had come around, these two were in love, had a family, basically living a normal life while still disguising his dark passenger.  But it was working and he was happy, and now he'll always blame himself for what happened to his wife.  Life with Rita is not the same and Dexter has trouble adjusting, especially with the suspisions of another Dectetive, Joeseph Quinn and being a single father.  Rita's two kids moved away and are still trying to connect with Dexter after their mother's death, which of course was tough on them & their first instinct was of course to blame Dexter. I think they're coming around tho, b/c in this season, season 5, (the season after Rita died), they've been coming around slowly.  And Dexter would do anything to get their affections back, even if it means not living with them.  But he has Harrison and with his inner secrets & kills, that's hard enough to balance.

Dex & Harrison

Dec. Joseph Quinn, also Deb's partner.  He also plays the devious Jack Bass on Gossip Girl!

So tonight is the season finale of season 5, guest starring Julia Stiles.  I was surprised when I saw her make an appearance in the show!  She plays a girl who's been hurt & Dexter not by choice at first, but b/c he had to save his own ass, couldn't let her go.  She had seen his face and saw what he was capable of.  But that relationship turns into a "revenge" plot for the girl, Lumen, & after awhile, Dexter wants to help her.  He feels something again, a hole that was in him from loosing Rita.  Not that Lumen would ever take her place, but someone he could connect with.  And more so b/c Lumen knows what he really is and she's not afraid.  If anything she's a lot like him, especially with a taste for revenge.  And even tho, his sis Deb, LT Laguerta, Dective Batista, Quinn...and all Miamo metro police are onto the case Lumen is involved in, they want to get there first.  Dexter feels sympathy & Lumen wants them dead.  Who can help her?

To follow Dexter and watch full episodes at http://www.showtime.com/.  Catch up with all 5 seasons, after tonight!  Don't let this show get away.  You'll recognize other characters from the show that you might have seen already on HBO's OZ & more...
And since I focused on telling you about Dexter, let's show some pics of your favorite characters from this hit TV show.
LT Laguerta & hubby Dec. Batista

Dexter's "kill" clothes are so hot.  His muscles are so defined! He is just hot when he's on the prowl.

Preparing a Kill room.

Dex & partner Vince, forensics. Dex is obviously smarter and Vince is a funny perv!
This show has won more than one Golden Globe awards for Best Tv drama series, Best actor, etc...
Props to all the actors/crew/writers.  Truly a great show.  One of my faves, but let's not get ahead of ourselves or at least me.  I haven't started with the series The Tudors yet, but when I do...you will all know that is more than just a TV show to me.  It's history.  (See i'm getting off topic already!)

But now watch Dexter...please? LOL
