Now what have we got here? I'll tell you. The mindblowing, totally unexpected lesbian scene in the new movie, Black Swan, with Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis & Vincent Cassel. I don't watch TV much, except for my designated favorite shows, listed below on this blog. I've watched all those shows on TV, but most of the time, I'm watching movies or DVD reruns of my fave shows. So I don't see many movie previews that often, especially now with DVR when your fastforwarding right through commercials. So I didn't see previews for this movie, & I of course heard about the buzz from everybody else. I didn't have to see the preview to know I wanted to see it. Natalie Portman is awesome, except for in The Other Boleyn Girl (but that wasn't her fault, it was a horrible movie & i'll explain why...just not now). I love Mila Kunis ever since That 70s Show. They're both gorgeous and great actresses. Portman always picks the good roles and Kunis is becoming hotter in Hollywood everyday. Natalie, we'll call the veteran actress here, she is the star of this movie and most of the movies she's in. She's been in the movie game for a long time and is well respected. But so is Mila Kunis, respected, i mean, but in a different way.
So Black Swan, the ballet movie. Definitely nothing like Center Stage, if that's what you're expecting. Natalie plays Nina Sayars, a ballet dancer in The Company who lands the lead in "Swan Lake" and is more than perfect for the role of the White Swan, being so delicate & detailed. Swan Lake, is the story of a girl who gets turned into a swan & needs love to break the spell. In the form of a prince, she almost gets her wish, until the Black Swan, her evil twin, seduces and steals the prince away from her. The White Swan kills herself b/c of her loss of the prince & finds freedom in death.
Nina embodies the White Swan, but the Black Swan role is difficult for Nina to perform. The director of The Company, Thomas, (in the movie it's pronouced in French), played by Vincent Cassel, knows it & tells her up front. He's reluctant to give her the part at first, seeing as he didn't see any of the Black Swan quailities in her. He's not afraid to talk to the dancers straightforth. I guess they almost made him a seductive character, meaning that his role as Company director was a little pervy. But he got results on the stage. Maybe that's why he seduces the dancers, to get something out of them. Idk! That seems like what he does with Nina, a bit. He doesn't cross too many lines, but there are moments when you're not really sure what's going to develop between the two of them.

The White Swan/Black Swan |
So Nina is the perfect White Swan, like I said. But her metamorphisis into the Black Swan, slowly makes her lose her mind & she becomes more and more like the evil sister, the Black Swan, (you would say). It's definitely a dark movie. Some people are calling it a psychological thriller. I like dark movies, suspensful movies. This movie was great, but it was definitely fucked up. And where does Lily, Mila Kunis fit in? She naturally embodies the Black Swan & Nina see's herself in Lily. The difference between their dancing is that Lily has the ability to let go and dance as if she wasn't follwing a routine...as where Nina, like said above is the total opposite And as this is all happening, Nina is finding her darker side. A crazy side! Lily seemed to bring the darker side out of her, from what you can decipher from the movie. But Nina's totally changing, basically. She's not that sweet girl anymore. She doesn't even know who she is...but what they're really getting at is that the story of Swan Lake, is kinda what happens in "Black Swan." It was very clever writing & directing.

First pic, Lily & Nina out, & what a scene...I think it's one of the climatic points of the movie. And below is Lily dancing, which of course Thomas describes as "inprecise, but effortless...she's not faking it." Nina has to embody some of those qualities to dance the Black Swan. Apparently, she can't handle it & she doesn't even know it.
There were at least 3 or 4 drawdropping parts, including the lesbian scene between Lily, (Mila Kunis), & Nina, (Portman). I could not believe how graphic they got. After that scene I knew why people were calling this one of Natalie Portman's most seductive roles yet. And it's prob why it already got 4 Golden Glob nods & I'm sure the Academy will take notice. It's a movie that you're figuring out as you're watching & they are many disturbing parts. And it's definitely unpredictable. Sometimes you're like..."what just happened?"
Let's just say, I don't think anyone can watch this movie & actually feel good afterwards. It's not a "feel good" movie. If you want to laugh, don't go see this one! Swan Lake is a dark ballet to begin with.
But I'm watching it a 2nd time, so I really like it, and besides...i wanna get another feel for it. It's a quiet movie at first, that develops into pandomonium within this ballerinas mind.
Also with Barbara Hershey from Beaches as her "concerned" mom, & Winona Ryder as Beth, the "washed up" ballerina that retires as Nina becomes the new star.
Verdict: Awesome.

I wonder if every ballerina is a schizophrenic? Natalie really had me convined! |

The evil black Swan, which Nina winds up becoming. |
I was lucky enough to score a perfect copy on bootleg from my dvd guy. I was so suprised I got a good copy, considering it just came out. How lucky that I didn't have to go out and see it? :) Maybe some of the bootleggers you know out there have a good copy too. B/c I realized that most of these Chinese that go around and sell bootlegs, have a lot of the same copies of the same movies. I bet Swan Lake was a hot one & most bootleggers have a good one. I have a lot of experience with buying bootlegs, that's all!
Anyway, Good day people. Maybe I'll write later, but I'm gonna finish watching this movie alone, take it all in again and try to go back to sleep. I have my bong hits, some coffee and I'm off today...so I'm really good:). It's 7:52 am, I can't believe THIS is when I got the energy to write! I am so jumping back in bed after this movie!
But, I'm glad I did and Black Swan was worth talking about. You know I've had a lesbian experience ONCE! Wasn't that bad, I guess. I don't want to go into the whole thing now and it was before I was married. It wasn't my idea, it was hers. She put it into my head and I went with it. But never did it again. I'm just straight, I guess. But I do fantasize about women, sometimes...hmmm. What about you guys? Too personal? LOL!
KK im just gonna keep smoking my bong then! xD
Whoa this is some review. I do like these actressses, but it doesn't sound like my type of movie...or at least I'd have to be in the mood. I may have to check it out though....
ReplyDeleteI have a perfect bootleg copy of this movie too! I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, basically because I feel like it's a movie I could have made already...(my mind's pretty dark as it is, lol). I think I'm going to watch it for a second time and see how I feel. Also, I really like reading your review. You nailed it!
