"Easy A"

Emma Stone

Emma Stone is one of the newest breakout actresses on the scene.  We first saw her in Superbad, with Jonah Hill & Michael Cera.   She played Jules, the popular girl who was actually really nice.  She was really funny in that movie & she proved that she could be a supporting actress.  Then I kept seeing her in more & more such as, The House Bunny, Ghost's of Girlfriends Past, & now Easy A.
In all those movies that I've seen with her, which are all of them, she's played a dorky character, which she pulls off very well, but at the same time, she is really pretty, so she def pulls off the hot popular girl as well.

In Easy A, which this post is focused on, she play's Olive Penderghast.  A very intelligent, witty, smart, funny, & def nerdy girl at times.  This story is about a rumour, a big one.  The whole movie is narrated by Olive, which apparently turns out to be we a webcast to explain her absolute truth in the end.

This is how Olive introduces every chapter of her story, to clear her name.  You can tell how intelligent this girl is, she makes references that high school girls def wouldn't know.  That's also what makes her so funny!

So the movie is really based on the classic book/movie, "The Scarlett Letter."
The Scarlett letter is about a woman who was ostracized for committing adultery & they forced her to paint a red A on her to i guess exploit, would be the word or shame her.  That's how it was back then, that a woman's biggest crime would be adultery.  Which explained the A that Emma was walking around in the entire movie.   It was actually very clever of her.  Once the rumour was out there, she decided to use it to her social & financial standing.  She did one big favor for a friend & then everything spun out of control.  The thing is no one was actually asking her out, they just wanted to tell pple they hooked up with her.  But of course, there is that one guy in the movie, Todd, (Penn Badgely), he's the good guy & actually treats her like a person despite the rumours.

Todd & Olive, the guy she actually likes.

 .

And that high school is harsh, they have crazy catholic freaks that sing & try to save pple.  Two of those characters played by Amanda Bynes & Cam Gigdnet

That's her intentionally pissing off the "Jesus freak", in the above pic, as she's called in the movie.  Amanda Bynes looks like shit by the way.  She has a nice body, but something is wrong with her face.  Idk...:)

The story gets out of control when members of the faculty got involved, which was also unintentional.  She loved her teacher, (Thomas Hayden Church) & didn't know that her guidance coucelor & his wife, (Lisa Kudrow), would turn out to be the bad guy.  She never meant to hurt him, her teacher who knew the rumours were lies.

There is a really funny part tho in the beginning.  She gets one of the musical cards in the mail & for the entire weekend she stayed home, playing the card & singing the song, out loud.  She is hilarious.  Great comedic actress.

Olive singing in the shower, such a dork...love it!

This is the same weekend as the shower scene, as you can see she's singing & the card is right next to her.  She even started painting the dogs nails!  (This was all going on, her doing nothing, while everyone actually thought she had a hot date, which resulted in the first rumour).

Her family is really cool too.  Her father is played by Stanley Tucci.  He's all young spirited & funny, they have such a open relationship, so close & they are all very intelligent & laid back.  Patricia Clarkson plays her mother & she's an amzaing actress!  Talk about leading lady & she has the same personality as her husband.  They play off each other very well.  They also have an adopted black son. I would love them as parents!

Penderghast family night, what great conversations! So funny!

So in conclusion, I obviously recommend this movie.  I can't wait to see Emma Stone in some new roles, cuz she's now quickly becoming a leading lady.
Also learning about the Scarlett Letter was interesting & she says to watch the original & not the one with Demi Moore.  :)  Apprently too many bath scenes...ha!
